Five Minutes On Friends

For Emily

When you have lived through Jr. High together, you are forever friends.

When you’ve shared countless birthday parties with self-decorated foam bowl hats, you are forever friends.

When you’ve camped in the rain; shared secrets; spent nights in each other’s basements; cried together over first loves and broken hearts, you are forever friends.

Passing  notes in church. Backyard waterslide Olympics. Roller coasters at Six Flags. Road trips. Fried dill pickles. Wild raccoons. Spring Break beach days. Riding horses at my aunt’s farm. Rolling around in the back of station wagons. Revenge of the Nerds. Choir competitions. Canoe trips. Driver’s licenses. Big hair. Graduation parties. Wedding days.

It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve hugged you in person. Now only 3 weeks until I do again. Can’t wait, my forever friend!

I teared up while reading that (some tears of laughter as well). We have shared some great memories and I honestly can’t wait to see you in 3 weeks. I couldn’t imagine getting married without you there to share it all. The things we’ve done together and shared are things that have definitely shaped my life and made me the person I am today. Thanks for reminding me what a special friendship we have. Love you! Emily

Yay for you! Meeting up again with your forever friend.

I have a dear friend I met in High School. We don’t talk much anymore but when we do, we pick up right where we left off. Friendships like that are rare and so very special. A gift.
