Five Minutes on Empty

March 12, 2012 by Beth Hess

I think about foam cups filled with dirt. names on masking tape. All align in the window.

The seed went in a day ago. Then a week. Yet still they sit. Empty.

I want a sign of life. Truth be told, I’d prefer the harvest. Now, please.

I’m not good with the empty. Full is so much, well, fuller. And who doesn’t long for a full life. A full experience. A full cup. Overflowing.

Why do I forget empty is part of the process? Empty to fill. And that what looks empty may really be a miracle just not yet ready to be revealed.

God loves to work behind the empty.

Just look what he did with an empty tomb.

Note: Yes, I know it’s Monday. But it’s never the wrong time to write and reflect.
