For my sweet friend who suffered one of life’s punch-in-the-gut moments this week.
One day you will smile again. And mean it. But today is not that day.
One day you will say that you’re Ok. And believe it. But today is not that day.
One day the pain will ease. The tears will cease. The sleep will come easily. But today is not that day.
Today is not the day to be strong. Or suck it up. It’s not the day to worry about other people. Or defend your feelings to them. It’s not the day to make future plans. Or regret past actions.
Today is a day for tears. And grieving. And feeling it fully. Whatever you need to feel.
Today is a day for trusting yourself to know what you need. And changing your mind if you need to. And ignoring how other people think you should be handling it.
For as many todays as you need.
Because learning to breathe again takes as long as it takes. And one day it will come naturally again. I promise.
