Word of the Week: For When Love is Enough

Sometimes when I catch a glimpse of him from the corner of my eye, the time flies forward even faster than it already has. And I see him as he will be at 16. Sitting on my couch. Hungry.

This is him at 9. Destined to be taller than I am. Probably before he finishes 5th grade.

He’s intelligent. And funny. And contemplative. And silly. And sensitive. And inquisitive.

He’s “too old” for animated feature films. But not for morning snuggles. He’s old enough to recommend to me a novel he’s read so we can “discuss our favorite parts.” But with not enough candles on his cake to yet remember to brush his teeth unprompted.

I just flat out love this kid. Just love.

He didn’t have to earn it. He doesn’t have to beg for it. He just gets my love. Because he’s mine.

And God says that about me, too.

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

That’s what God wants me to know this week. (And I suspect He wants you to know it, too.)

I don’t have to earn it. I won’t have to beg for it. I just get His love. Because I’m His.
