Word of the Week: For When Love is Enough

1John3.1

Sometimes when I catch a glimpse of him from the corner of my eye, the time flies forward even faster than it already has. And I see him as he will be at 16. Sitting on my couch. Hungry.

This is him at 9. Destined to be taller than I am. Probably before he finishes 5th grade.

He’s intelligent. And funny. And contemplative. And silly. And sensitive. And inquisitive.

He’s “too old” for animated feature films. But not for morning snuggles. He’s old enough to recommend to me a novel he’s read so we can “discuss our favorite parts.” But with not enough candles on his cake to yet remember to brush his teeth unprompted.

I just flat out love this kid. Just love.

He didn’t have to earn it. He doesn’t have to beg for it. He just gets my love. Because he’s mine.

And God says that about me, too.

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

That’s what God wants me to know this week. (And I suspect He wants you to know it, too.)

I don’t have to earn it. I won’t have to beg for it. I just get His love. Because I’m His.

I return each Sabbath for a fresh Word of the Week. For the God-breathed pages to come alive in a phrase or two on which to spend a 7-day feast. To meditate upon. To use as a jumping off point for whatever other words God would have me hear during the week. I would love for you to join the Word of the Week (WOW) discussion by adding your selected verse to the comments … or reflections on any scripture reading.

Linking with Unforced Rhythms — a wonderful community of writers who gather each Monday to share with you HERE.

I love this one. A reminder of my love for you, as well.

A message I need to remind myself of every day I wake. Thank you, because I needed this reminder today. I am so grateful I am His . . . that we are His.

  3. Beth,
What a wonderful truth about God’s love…and I love your son recommends books to you…our daughter recommends books to me so now I’m reading fantasy, which I probably wouldn’t read on my own …and it has been good….blessings 🙂

I’m enjoying how my relationship with my son grows and changes as he gets older. That, too, is a good reminder of how my time with God should change as I grow, too. Thanks for coming by today.
